The New Bedford Standard Times and SouthCoast Today reported on June 4, 2014 the recent settlement of a three year long legal battle on behalf of the family of Guiseppe Cracchiolo, who slipped from an icy dock in New Bedford and fell to his death on January 28, 2011. The Cracchiolo family, represented by Attorneys Joseph M. Orlando and Brian S. McCormick of Orlando & Associates, settled with one of the defendants, O’Hara Corporation, in 2012 for $450,000.
On May 28, 2014, after a ten day trial in Federal Court in Boston, and while the jury was still deliberating, the other defendant, Eastern Fisheries, the owners of the facility where Mr. Cracchiolo fell, settled with the Cracchiolo family for $900,000.
Attorney Brian S. McCormick stated, “This was a long and emotional legal battle for this family. The Cracchiolo family suffered emotionally and financially as a result of Guiseppe Cracchiolo’s death, and they all displayed great courage in fighting it through to the end.”
Attorney Joseph M. Orlando, chief trial counsel at Orlando & Associates, said in a statement, “I am so pleased that our firm was able to recover for the Cracchiolo family. No amount of money will ever substitute for the loss of a husband and father, but Carla Cracchiolo will now be able to replace the financial loss suffered and help her children deal with their personal loss.”
