Gloucester Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken, a childhood friend and neighbor of Joseph M. Orlando, presented a citation to the firm, which stated, “Whereas the firm has, through its participation and dedication, become an integral part of the community, rather than a business within it, I, Sefatia Romeo Theken, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Gloucester, hereby congratulate Orlando & Associates on their 35th Anniversary and extend my very best wishes for continued success in the future.”
She also spoke movingly about the firm’s representation of so many injured Gloucester fishermen through the years. “The fact is that he brought closure into our homes; he helped us survive, encouraged us to go forward, and to be strong. When you have a friend like Joe to pick you up after a tragedy, that’s a good feeling.”
Joe Tortello, from State Senator Bruce Tarr’s office, presented two citations to Attorney Orlando. One citation, stating congratulations from Senator Bruce Tarr and the Massachusetts Senate, and one from Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, “extending warm greetings to you on the joyous occasion of your 35th Anniversary.”
City Councilor at Large, and Attorney, Joseph Orlando Jr.; and Amanda Kesterson, Attorney Orlando’s children who work at the law firm, presented him with a ship’s bell and plaque, honoring him as the “captain of the firm’s ship” which has guided the firm into the next generation. Attorney Orlando also honored Senior Associate Brian S. McCormick, who has been with the firm for 25 years, and Ruth Katsikas, Attorney Orlando’s legal secretary, who has worked for the firm for over 30 years.

It has been an honor to serve the people of Cape Ann, and to take on the insurance companies to show them that we will fight back, that we can win, and we have.”
